Join us to demand a criminal justice system that takes responsibility for its own actions.
Fifty years ago, the Oval Four campaign titled Cause for Concern was launched at a public meeting at Lambeth Town Hall. The event became a powerful call to action against the wrongful conviction, harassment, and framing of Black men by corrupt police officers.
Five decades later, we return to the same venue, with Winston Trew of the Oval Four, to launch a landmark policy report based on research by the York Law School and the Centre for Applied Human Rights at the University of York and APPEAL. The report sets out proposals for reform, including a campaign to introduce automatic reviews of cases involving police officers later found to have engaged in serious misconduct.
The systemic failures that enabled these injustices have never been fully addressed in law. This event marks an important opportunity to reflect on the past and push for meaningful reform.
