Clients
When providing legal advice and representation we may collect information necessary to progress your case; undertake conflict checks; comply with regulatory requirements; meet anti-money laundering obligations; communicate with courts, experts and third parties; and fulfil our professional duties.
This may include sensitive personal information relating to health, ethnicity, religion or other protected characteristics where relevant to the legal work being undertaken.

Supporters and Subscribers
If you subscribe to newsletters, campaign updates or other communications, we may collect: your name; your email address; and engagement information relating to communications we send.
We may use this information to improve communications and better understand supporter engagement.
Donors
If you make a donation to APPEAL, we may collect your name; address; email address; telephone number; donation history; and payment-related information necessary to process donations.
Website Visitors
If you visit our website, we may automatically collect technical information which may include IP address; browser type; operating system; device type; website usage data; pages visited; links clicked; search terms used; visit times and dates; and analytical information regarding website use.

When you apply for a position with APPEAL we will process application forms; CVs; employment history; qualifications; references; and correspondence relating to recruitment.

Information Obtained from Third Parties
We may receive personal information from courts and tribunals; barristers; experts; HMRC; banks; employers; healthcare professionals; client due diligence providers; publicly available sources; and other parties connected with legal matters.

We use personal information to provide legal advice and representation; manage legal cases; administer charitable activities; process donations; organise events; communicate with supporters; administer recruitment; manage professional relationships; improve our website and services; comply with legal obligations; prevent fraud, money laundering and financial crime; maintain records; and protect our legal rights and interests.

Processing is necessary to perform a contract with you or to enter into a contract with you.

We may share personal information with courts and tribunals; barristers; expert witnesses; opposing legal representatives where necessary; regulators; government authorities; auditors; insurers; banks; professional advisers; and service providers acting on our behalf.

We currently use service providers which may process personal information on our behalf, including: Access Legal; Action Network; Devonthink; Dropbox; Eventbrite; Microsoft; Stripe; WordPress; Xero; and Zoom.
We require all service providers to process information securely and in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
We do not sell personal information and we do not allow third parties to use personal information for their own marketing purposes.
We may include links to other website which are not operated by APPEAL. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We advise you to review the privacy policy of the side that you visit, as APPEAL has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.

Your information will usually be stored within the United Kingdom or European Economic Area.
Where information is transferred internationally, appropriate safeguards will be implemented to ensure an adequate level of protection.

Limited information may also be retained following the closure of a matter to enable conflict checks and compliance with professional obligations.
When information is no longer required, it will be securely deleted or anonymised.
