APPEAL is proud to extend our warmest congratulations to Margaret Obi on her historic appointment as a High Court Judge in England and Wales. Margaret’s elevation to the bench marks a significant milestone—not only in her distinguished legal career but also in the broader journey toward a more representative judiciary.

Margaret served as a trustee of APPEAL, contributing to the strategic oversight and governance of our charity. While she was not involved in casework, her role was instrumental in supporting the overall operations and mission of APPEAL. Her commitment to fairness and integrity was evident in every aspect of her trusteeship.

Margaret’s appointment is historic on multiple fronts. She is the first Black woman from the solicitor’s profession to be appointed to the High Court, and is the only person of African-descent to currently hold this prestigious judicial office in the UK. Her elevation marks a significant step toward a more inclusive and representative judiciary, and is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and trailblazing spirit.
