Disclosure: Written evidence

JOINT WRITTEN Submission with cardiff law school innocence project on disclosure of evidence in criminal cases

The Justice Select Committee opened an inquiry into the disclosure of evidence in criminal cases on the 22nd of February 2018, following the high profile collapse of a number of rape cases due to egregious disclosure failings earlier this year.

APPEAL obtained documents from HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) under the Freedom of Information Act that revealed the full extent of the disclosure crisis. You can read more about that here

These submissions were made in conjunction with the Cardiff Law School Innocence Project.

Domestic Abuse: Bill Consultation

Written Submission from the Centre on the government's approach to domestic abuse

APPEAL was pleased to contribute to the Government's consultation on the proposed Domestic Violence and Abuse Bill, opened on 8th March 2018, and has responded to the questions we feel best placed to answer in the attached submission.

Our expertise is in dealing with post-conviction criminal cases, and so our responses are focused on providing better outcomes for survivors of domestic abuse who have been convicted and sentenced in the courts of England and Wales.
